I purchased 4 of these doors off the shelf at Home Depot.I pulled product that still was completely sealed in the factory packaging.
I rejected several of the stock at Home Depot due to damaged packaging with visible defects in the product. I loaded them myself on to a rolling lumber wagon, on edge, and checked out. I placed them in the back of my SUV and took them home where I placed them upright, still in the packaging. My installer came and removed them from the package.
I was present when he laid them on saw horses with a packing blanket underneath them to saw off 3/4" on the bottom and re-install and glue the bottom rail in. We set them upright overnight to dry outside with a blanket over the top against the wall where they were leaning. The installer returned and did the installation coming in to the house through the French door in the bedroom where they were installed. He pointed out the large area in the corner where the veneer had broken off on one door.
As he installed them I noticed the several areas with nicks in the veneer. When the installation was complete I noticed the cracking in the edges of the veneer as well. Please see the attached photos. While I understand that these are an inexpensive product.
Especially compared to solid core products. It was disappointing the ease with which this product is so readily damaged and the apparent damage that the product suffers just in shipping and storage with the packaging Masonite currently uses.
